Have you found your voice yet? Now is the time to express your concerns to our legislators. Our state’s “great/failed” experiment is destroying our future in an attempt to pay for current indebtedness. We are so focused on the hole we are in that we are ignoring what we are creating. There has been no discussion regarding what WE want Kansas to be. Our children and grandchildren will pay the price for our foolishness. We must re-capture the lost revenue stream from the 2012 tax cuts and replace it with a fair tax system if we are to return to our values of fiscally sound financial practices, strong public education, and an independent judiciary that will keep us from continually heading off track.
It is time to contact your senator and representative. It is their job to represent you. But it is your job to voice your concerns. Here are some talking points to help speed up the process:
1. If you are concerned about our growing budget deficit:
It is obvious that Kansas is broke.
Brownback’s failed tax experiment has trashed our state.
-Education has been gutted.
-Job growth has stalled—there has been no non-farm job growth the last 12 months.
-The state’s infrastructure is crumbling.
-Even with last year’s largest tax increase in Kansas history, we are not collecting the anticipated revenue to fund our state budget.
It is time to FIX KANSAS! Repeal the 2012 tax cuts for LLCs before the end of this legislative session.
2. If your major concern is funding education:
I am concerned about OUR MONEY, OUR CHILDREN, and OUR FUTURE
All Kansas children deserve quality education, regardless of their address.
We are selling our future to big business as we insist on allowing tax avoidance.
-No more cuts to the public education budget.
-Fully and equitably fund our schools to keep our schools open!
-Repeal the 2012 tax cuts that encourage tax avoidance by LLC creation.
If our schools close, I will hold our Governor and his GOP-led legislature responsible.
3. Or if you are concerned about retaining an independent judiciary:
Like a basketball referee, the Kansas Supreme Court cannot side with specific teams or coaches.
If it does the game is rigged and the fans (citizens) lose.
KEEP OUR COURTS INDEPENDENT
DO NOT CONSIDER SB 439!
There are many other pressing concerns: funding KDOT & KPERS, selling the Tobacco Settlement, Expanding medicare, DCF hearings. They are all important. Call. Send a written note. Send an e-mail. Do it. Do it today. Our future depends on it.
Speak up before it is too late. You could be responsible for changing the course of our state.
